Listings of Species Held in the Archerd Collection

TO VIEW A PARTIAL LIST OF HOLDINGS, SELECT A FAMILY, OR SUPERFAMILY, & SUBMIT:

The Archerd Shell Collection holds about 25,000 shells, not all of which have yet been entered, either into the retrieval lists above, or the primary Data Base (located on another server). Using the selection button above, a partial listimg of species can here be accessed by Family or Superfamily, as entered into the Data Base as of August 1, 2009. In the retrieval listings, shell nomenclature may occasionally need to be updated, as well. Specifically, please note the following:

• If a shell species is exhibited here, on the accompanying Family and Photo Gallery pages of this web site, its nomenclature and its classification will have been revised if needed to accord with current information.


• If a species is not pictured on this web site, then the both the retrievals, from this page, and the Data Base entries will remain as recorded in Gladys Archerd's hand written log, largely completed 45 years ago.


• Rarely, a listed shell species will show in the Bin column as "AAV". These few specimen shells remain in the private collection of Artis Archerd Vaughan and are not part of the University collection. For the most part, other shells of the same species will exist in the collection, and they may not be tabulated in the data base.

Nomenclature updates as well as new species entries to the Data Base are being made periodically, as a continuing effort, and we would greatly appreciate comments or notification of discrepancies, from users of this web site. Please contact me via email
