What Kind of Animal Lives in These Shells?

The  mollusc, Cymbiolacca pulchra wisemani (Brazier, 1870), Volutidae family
photographed live by Neville Coleman
(in Wilson & Gillett, 1971).

The molluscs that inhabit the various shells shown here can be rather spectacular in their living state, particularly those from tropical or semi-tropical waters. Look for pictures of other live molluscs in the shell directories that follow. An asterisk after a name in the family index directory will indicate where we have located available pictures of the living animal, generally in its natural environment. Various on-line contributors have generously made available their personal photographs of molluscs by posting them on the internet. We have included links to these locations, where appropriate.
