Pyrula_laevigata_(Lam.).JPG (71431 bytes) As mentioned elsewhere, the 19th Century zoologists were very accomplished in making anatomically accurate drawings of the animals they studied. Lankester's drawing, at the left, shows clearly the large triangular foot characteristic of this mollusc, as well as two additional folds of the mantle that pull together to almost completely cover its thin shell.

Pyrula is an older synonym for the genus now named Ficus.
