Listings of Species Held in the Archerd Collection

The Archerd Shell Collection holds about 25,000 shells, not all of which have yet been entered either into this listing or the actual electronic data base, located elsewhere. Using the selection button above, a partial list of species can here be accessed, as entered into the data base as of September 12, 2002. The lists are arranged by family, showing genus and species of identified shells.

The data base lists are incomplete at this time because of the size of the Collection, and shell identification may not always be current for every shell listed. Please note: if a species is not pictured on the accompanying family and photo gallery pages of this web site, then the both the listings, here, and the electronic data base entries remain as recorded in Gladys Archerd's hand written log, largely completed 40 years ago. However, if shells are exhibited on this web site, species names as shown on the family and photo gallery pages will have been revised if needed to accord with current information (Abbott & Dance, 2000). In this case, the electronic data base entries have generally been updated as well.

Nomenclature updates as well as new species entries to the database will be made periodically, as a continuing effort.
